EPISTEM Visiting Fellow / Doctoral Fellow Appointments

EPI•STEM’s Visiting Fellow and Visiting Doctoral Fellow appointments are designed to enhance the STEM research community at UL by fostering collaboration between Visiting Fellows and academic staff at EPI•STEM, UL. Fellows are expected to benefit from working with EPI•STEM research staff in conducting research and contributing to the Centre’s activities.

The title of EPI•STEM  Visiting Fellow may be conferred on suitably qualified visitors who wish to exchange expertise, carry out joint research and teaching development, etc., with members of EPI•STEM . As a general rule, Visiting Fellows will have a background and/or current research directions compatible with members of EPI•STEM ’s teaching and research staff.

Process:
Applicants are advised to initiate contact with a staff member who shares their research interest, describing the goals and preferred length of their proposed visit. A list of staff can be found at the following link: https://epistem.ie/our-people/faculty-staff
It is expected that an EPI•STEM staff member be prepared to sponsor a proposed Visiting Fellow. Once this sponsorship is agreed, applicants must complete the Visiting Fellow Application Form and submit a 4-page Curriculum Vitae and supporting documents, including a 1-page overview of research work to be undertaken while visiting EPI•STEM . Visiting Fellows are encouraged to take part in and contribute to learning and research in EPI•STEM.

Facilities:
Visiting fellows will be provided with desk space in the dedicated EPI•STEM research centre and computer facilities along with full library access, access to email and restricted access to photocopying facilities (at the discretion of the Director).
The research centre encompasses dedicated office space for staff and researchers, a separate dedicated postgraduate area, a meeting room and bespoke lecture room. There is a robust and welcoming research culture at EPI•STEM and Fellows will be facilitated in achieving their research goals while in residence.

Duration:
The duration of the Visiting Fellowship is envisaged as ordinarily between one and six months; applications for a shorter or longer duration will be considered.

Terms and Conditions

  • During the research period, fellows are expected to have a significant presence in EPI•STEM, the National Centre for STEM Education.
  • Fellows are asked to take part and contribute to learning and research in EPI•STEM
  • Fellows will be asked to deliver one public lecture/workshop or seminar, to students and staff in the researcher’s field of interest.
  • Fellows will be required to provide a one-page summary of their research for inclusion on the EPI•STEM website as part of our effort to show case the breadth and excellence of the STEM research community that we support.
  • Fellows are asked to credit ‘EPI•STEM, University of Limerick’ in any publication or other outcome pursuant to their studies at EPI•STEM.
