Norma O’Brien worked in post-primary education for 31 years. She holds a degree in Science Teaching, a Master’s Degree in Environmental Resource Management & a Post-Graduate Diploma in School Leadership. She completed a Level 7 Dioplóma sa Ghaeilge Fheidhmeach in the University of Limerick in 2024. Norma started her career as a teacher of Science & Biology in London, moving back to West Cork in 1992 and then back to her home city of Limerick in 1995. Norma became Principal of Coláiste Mhuire, Askeaton in 2011 & then took up the role of Principal in Thomond Community College, Limerick City, in 2018. In that time, she also worked as a PDST Leadership Associate on the Misneach Programme, a Mentor to newly appointed Principals with the Centre for School Leadership and she was a member of the NAPD National Executive. Norma is currently on secondment as Director of Limerick Education Support Centre. She is Vice-Chair of ESCI (Education Support Centres Ireland) and represents ESCI on a number of committees. Norma is a PhD candidate, now in Year 2 of her research in the field of Educational Leadership in the University of Limerick.
