Dr. Gordon Armstrong

Dr. Gordon Armstrong is Chief Technical Officer at the Bernal Institute, University of Limerick, since July 2017, where he is responsible for laboratory, safety and central facilities management.  Since completing his BSc (Industrial Chemistry, 1998) and PhD (Materials Science, 2002) at UL, he has worked at the Materials Ireland Polymer Research Centre, School of Physics, Trinity College Dublin, and the former Stokes Institute and Materials & Surface Science Institute at UL. Dr. Armstrong is a Visiting Lecturer in Nanocomposites at ENSIL-ENSCI, University of Limoges, France since 2011, and has supervised researchers from undergraduate to postdoctoral level, most recently as joint supervisor on a PhD project between the universities of Limerick and Limoges.

Dr. Armstrong is currently a member of the Society of Chemical Industry (SCI), Institution for Occupational Safety & Health (IOSH), Institute for Safety in Technology & Research (ISTR), and University Biosciences Managers Association (UBMA) and serves as Chair and Honorary Secretary of SCI’s All-Ireland and Materials Chemistry Groups respectively. He received SCI’s Distinguished Service award in 2016, and was conferred with the rank of Chevalier in the Ordre des Palmes Académiques in 2017.
