Royal Society of Chemistry

ON February 10th Dr. John O’Donoghue, Royal Society of Chemistry visited the first year group of PME Science students in epiSTEM. The session began with an overview of resources relevant to the Irish curriculum, followed by a tutorial on effectively using the website. Dr. O’Donoghue outlined the support provided by the Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC) to teachers. The session included an interactive,  hands-on experiment featuring an inquiry based approach to using UV beads which would be  particularly useful for Junior Cycle Classroom-Based Assessments (JC CBA’s) and Transition Year (TY) students bringing to life the resources available from the RSC website. Additionally, the group explored some of the best articles from Education in Chemistry (EIC), emphasizing collections that both student teachers and in-service teachers find particularly useful. The visit was both informative and practical, providing valuable insights and resources for future science educators as they begin their professional teaching career.
