Professor Fernando Blasco used magic to introduce mathematical topics to the 700 students from schools across Munster who attended the Concert Hall, University of Limerick. Although magic tricks usually remain a secret, the patterns and the underlying ideas were more interesting than the tricks themselves. At today’s talk the students and teachers were introduced to prime numbers, sudoku, knot theory, number systems, calendars and quick calculations.
A mathematician at the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid, Fernando Blasco is one of Spain's best known mathematics promoters where he collaborates with TV shows and radio programs and performs in Civic Centres, Science Museums, University Classrooms and other stages.
