EPI•STEM Welcomed NCCA’s David King for Seminar on New Leaving Certificate Subject
EPI•STEM – The National Centre for STEM Education – recently hosted an information seminar with David King from the National Council for Curriculum and Assessment (NCCA) to discuss the newly introduced Leaving Certificate subject, Climate Action and Sustainable Development.
The seminar took place on Monday, September 29, 2025, in EPI•STEM and provided attendees with an overview of the subject, which was introduced to schools earlier this September. David King outlined the work of the NCCA Development Group in shaping the curriculum and shared insights into the design process behind this innovative subject. He also provided useful links to the subject specification and details of the development process undertaken by the NCCA:

In addition to discussing Climate Action and Sustainable Development, David King briefly addressed developments in Senior Biology and the design process for that subject.
The session offered participants an opportunity to learn more about the aims and structure of this new Leaving Certificate subject and its role in promoting sustainability and climate awareness in Irish education.
