The Irish Science Teachers Association Conference 2025

On Saturday, April 5th, 2025, Dr. Michelle Starr, Research Liaison Officer represented EPI•STEM at the annual Irish Science Teachers’ Association (ISTA) Conference held at Maynooth University.
This year’s conference, themed ‘Adapting to a Changing World in Science Education’, focused on the urgent need for science education to evolve in response to both the rapid pace of technological advancement and the shifting dynamics of modern society. With global challenges—ranging from climate change to digital transformation—science educators find themselves at the forefront, tasked with preparing students not only to understand science but to engage with it critically and ethically in an increasingly complex world.
The theme highlighted the dual nature of change: while it brings undeniable challenges, it also opens doors to innovation and new pedagogical opportunities. Dr. Michelle Starr’s participation underscores EPI•STEM’s commitment to supporting science teachers, fostering professional development via research and innovative STEM education CPD resources that promote interdisciplinary approaches, and addresses national and international challenges in STEM education.
